Acoustic guitar

Guitar Scales photoWhen you say “acoustic guitar,” you are not referring to just one type of guitar. The truth is, by “acoustic guitar” you could be referring to a classical guitar with its nylon strings, a steel string acoustic guitar, a twelve string guitar, an acoustic bass guitar, a Baroque guitar, or one of many others.

The basic definition of an acoustic guitar is a guitar whose sound has not been electronically enhanced or modified. So, when you are listening to the radio and the announcer says that they are going to be playing an acoustic set, that means that a band is playing their songs without being “plugged in.” Whereas the band might normally use electric guitars, they have pulled out their acoustic guitars for the song.

Many musicians first learn how to play the acoustic guitar before learning how to play an electric one. Also, many guitarists choose to write their songs on the acoustic guitar rather than an electric one. Some electric guitars can be acoustic ones when unplugged.
